A wasted journey?
So a few weeks ago my life was sent into chaos. My calendar app TimeTree, which is used by my whole family, keeping it up to date with all our appointments, plans and reminders, decided to either not open or open but freeze straight away. Bear in mind this app contained my whole life both personal and some important work things.
So when TimeTree put out an update i was hopeful that it would fix the issue, however this was not the case and the update completely broke the App for me, meaning it just crashed and closed straight away.
I could however still open the App on my iPad Mini and see everything. This sent me on a frantic search for another free calendar app that i could replace TimeTree with.
Alternatives
I looked at Google Calendar, Fantastical (not free) and a couple of others that didnt fit my needs. When i looked at Fantasical i was impressed with what it offered but then i saw the monthly fee and £120 a year for a calendar App just seemed excessive.
Yes i realise Fantasical offers so much more than just a calendar, but all i need is an effective calendar that family members can use and keep up to date from their own devices.
So i decided to give Google Calendar a try.
At first i liked the look and the little touches, like if you put in an event that was bowling then the background of the event would be a bowling ball and some pins. however my frustrations grew pretty quickly when i was trying to edit the colours used for different types of events. The only way i found to do this was to assign a colour to a new shared calendar and share it with my family. This however could only be done on a computer and not via the App, also creating more than 10 different shared calendars assigned to things such as Plans, Work, Birthdays etc was annoying but i tried it and shared them with my family.
This worked and my family could see everything i had spent time inputting in to these calendars, but the the final straw hit me when i realised non of my family could edit any of the events i put in if they needed to.
TimeTree came through
After all this, i was sat on my sofa and thought ‘why not just check to see if there is another update for TimeTree’ and low and behold there was.
I ran the update on my phone and thankfully when i tested the App it worked as it has since 2019.
All i can say is thank god and even though i wasted a lot of time looking for alternatives, im just happy to have my TimeTree App working again.
TimeTree dont do that to me again!!!
