Hello and welcome to my initial thoughts on the Waterfield Designs Tech Folio Brief from SFBags.
Firstly I chose the larger of the 2 options. They come in a Compact size, which is designed to hold a 14” laptop and a Full size, designed to hold a 16” laptop. I chose the larger size as being pretty tall, I didn’t want the bag to look too small while carrying it around and also so I could have the extra storage space inside.
Unboxing:
On taking the bag out of the box I found the packaging slightly underwhelming as it was just the bag inside a clear plastic covering that was inside the box, with the cable ties thrown in almost as an after thought, but do not let this distract from the bag itself!
Exterior:
This is a high quality handmade bag using high end materials. This bag is made from durable waxed canvas with full-grain leather accents, such as handles and front pocket that compliment the canvas beautifully. Other colours and materials are available.
The zips used also also water-resistant to give further protection to any electronics in the bag.
The bag comes with a shoulder strap that feels comfortable when carrying the bag, which is adjustable and has nicely designed clips to connect to the bag.
On the front of the bag is a quick access pocket, which closes via a strong magnet for security of any items placed in there. The rear of the bag has a nice slip-through to secure it to the handle of a suitcase while travelling.
Interior:
We now come on to the interior of the bag, which has 2 large compartments. The interior is made of a water-resistant material, which is gold in colour that gives the bag a real pop when you open it. For the front compartment, you can unzip 3 sides of the bag so the bag can lay flat allowing easy access to what is stored in there. This has 4 large mesh zip pockets which I like as the mesh allows you to see what is in each pocket. There is also 3 smaller mesh pockets, which can be used for cables, earphones or even a small power pack. Last but not least there are 2 open pockets made from a soft material that can be used for larger items like notepads, hard drives or even if needed an iPad Mini can fit easily.
If you carry a lot of cables around then the bag comes with 4 quality leather cable tidies keep the bag a bit neater, but you can order more from SFBags. These are a nice addition as they match the bag nicely.
For the laptop compartment, which has 2 pouches (1 slightly larger than the other) made from the same soft material in the front compartment, which offers protection to the devices in them. There is also a couple of pouches for pens and another 2 open pouches for more accessories, such as, glasses, wallet or smaller notepad.
This compartment also has space to store items like a drinks bottle, headphones case or maybe a change of clothes if required.
Conclusion:
Ok so my initial impressions of this bag are very good. You can tell the materials are very high quality and the production value is second to none being handmade.
So far, I have no issues that I can find on the bag itself, however there are a couple of things I want to raise, especially if the people who may want to purchase this bag don’t live in the US. This bag carries a very high prices but I feel is justified by the quality and practicality of it, however if you live somewhere like the UK, like me, then you should be aware of the very high shipping and tax costs in addition to the purchase of the bag. For example the bag costs $379 but with the addition of shipping and tax the price increases by $155 making it $534.
So would I recommend this bag to anyone? Absolutely, if money was no object then 100% I would be telling people to get this bag or any other that’s made by SFBags!
