The Nuphy Air60, Why is this so good?
Hello and welcome to a review of the Nuphy Air60 mechanical keyboard.
The Nuphy Air60 is a thin, light 60% style keyboard that has the comfort of a mechanical keyboard yet the portability to go along with it. The slope is from 22mm at the rear to 17mm at the front.
It is the perfectly sized keyboard to be used with an iPad Mini (seen as Apple does not provide a specific Magic Keyboard for it).
The frame is made of aluminium, however, the bottom of the keyboard is plastic. Due to this, there is the possibility of the plastic breaking if the keyboard is dropped, although this does allow it to be light for portability and the addition of the case should negate this.
Power:
In the box, 2 cables are provided (1.5m USB-C to USB-A and 0.2m USB-C to USB-C) and on a single charge, you can get up to 48 hours of battery life.
This device can pair up to 4 devices, 3 via Bluetooth and 1 via a 2.4Ghz dongle (USB-A)
You can choose which connection type to use on the back of the keyboard using a switch between Off, Wired or Wireless. There is also another switch on the back that means the user can change the setup of the keyboard depending on the Operating System being used, either Mac or Windows.
Customisation:
There are backlights under the keycaps, however, due to the keycaps not being see-through, the light only shines around the edges of the keys rather than through.
The feet underneath are very thin and horizontal providing a stable base to stop any slips on a work surface, but they are also designed to be placed on top of a MacBooks keyboard perfectly without pressing any keys. Although the only reason I could think to do this is if the MacBook keyboard was broken.
The hot-swappable keys can be changed to modify the sound the key provides the user, from clicky sounds to quieter options. Different options are available when purchasing or you can buy specific keycaps if you want to modify it in a certain way.
Case:
Not only that, this comes with a case (at additional cost) that protects the keyboard during travel and turns into a stand for an iPad, with a nice bright colour scheme with a soft grey interior making it feel like a quality item.
The outside of the case has a grippy texture that doesn’t slip on any surface, along with magnets keeping the keyboard attached to the case, making this feel like a very sturdy package.
The only downside to the stand is the strap and popper that turns the case into the stand as it can seem a bit fiddly.
Pros:
- Portability
- Case
- Looks
- Quality and feel
Cons:
- Strap
- Price
- The main charging cable has a USB-A connector
- Not ideal for use on your lap
Conclusion:
This is the perfect keyboard to use when portability is a must. Along with the case, there aren’t many better options out there to provide a great typing experience with the small amount of space taken up in a backpack. This, with any sized iPad, would be ideal for working on the move, whether on a train, plane or in a coffee shop.
